Lie detection methods in ancient times?

I am presently taking a class in Criminal Interrogations and Confessions, not sure where to look for some information. I do remember something about it though, it has to do with a person’s hand was placed in a pit of fire or boiling water, if hands did not burn it was seen as God protected the innocent. Part of the ( eye for an eye ) belief.
I already haev information on the Polygraph technique, Hypnosis, Narcoanalysis(truth serum), PSE (psychological stress evaluation), and P300(brain wave "fingerprinting"), i just need a sense of direction as to where i need to look in regards to the guilt or innocence procedure having to do with the hands. Thank you for your time

There’s always the Robert DeNiro/Meet the Parents method by monitoring someone’s pulse by hand while interrogating. You probably know this already, but when someone is lying, usually that person’s heart rate goes up, due to them being nervous.
