i see talk shows and game shows all the time on tv that center the whole show around it and these show break up familys and relationships all the time i heard you can be nervous and fail. and some poitical figures can pass them with flying colors

There is little scientific evidence to support the reliability of polygraphs. Despite claims of 90% – 95% reliability, critics charge that rather than a "test", the method amounts to an inherently unstandardizable interrogation technique whose accuracy cannot be established. A 1997 survey of 421 psychologists estimated the test’s average accuracy at about 61%.
They are not accurate at all. Most use them as an interrogation method because people think they are accurate and are afraid to lie. No one can prove you are lying. It’s a bunch of bull. I have taken one for a job and know it was useless!
I saw on dr Phil a story which was very dependant on the use of lie detectors and Dr Phil made a point of saying the lie detector was 93% accurate
Polygraph machines are not "Lie Detectors". They simply record on paper the changes in someone’s pulse rate, respiration rate, and blood pressure during questioning.
Then a human being reads the information and decides whether or not the subject "may have been lying". In fact, most polygraphers will not say that a subject has lied. They say that the test showed that "deception was indicated". Now tell me that’s not to protect them from law suits when the subject turns out to have proof that they weren’t lying.
Of course, the polygraphers will tell you that they have had comprehensive education on how to interpret the information that they get during the test and you just have to take their word for it. The few times that they’ve been scientifically tested, the percentage of time they were correct was more like 60-65% rather than 100%.
I myself once had a job where I had to send job applicants to a polygraph test. One time I got back a report on a guy that said "deception was indicated" when asked about several theft questions. He made the applicant sound like a serious criminal. I sent the applicant to another polygrapher and that guy said the same applicant passed with flying colors. So I know for a fact that ALL polygraphers are not able to do what they say they can do.
Many states do not allow pre-employment polygraphs anymore. The employer not only can’t demand that you take one … they can’t even ask you to volunteer or mention one.
Polygraph results are not admissible as evidence in U.S. courts.
The TV shows that make it look as if they’re foolproof are doing so because who would watch if they knew they’re not? Would you watch if they said that the contestant MAY HAVE cheated on his wife? Of course not. They have to pretend that the polygraph results are gospel.
Supposely they are 99.8%..

Lie detectors work on a principle that when you lie your eyes contract, your heart beat changes and several other constraints. The same thing happens in Narco test as well where the person is injected with a thing called truth serum.
A person who meditates or a person who is a habitual liar can come out of lie detector un-scathed becz he is too habituated to lying that he tells lie as a matter of truth. Even the great story tellers can come out of lie detector tests after telling a lie becz they have a habit of telling a story like it is happening now.

I think maybe there is some scientific evidence to support the reliability of polygraphs. It seems that the conclusions are collected from various kinds of people.However,we can not bilieve in it,for it is subjective.
