why are parents so concern about their children lying online?

i am writing an essay about the dangers or troubles of social networking website like MySpace.

of course parents will be concerned about their children lying online… but why? I already used up predators and cyberbullies as two of my arguments. What else are parents concerned? the only one i can think of is bad behavior, the question is, what kind of bad behavior?

I don’t think it’s a question of parents’ suspicion of children lying, but of deceiving others into believing that they’re someone different than who they are. Adding to your suggestion of sexual predators, I would say concealing their ages in order to purchase something, or in order to visit adult websites.

While Social Networking can be fun, it can also be harmful if you don’t know the risks. We already know that the good things about SNS is that you get to socialize with your friends and get updates from celebrities, politicians, news updates, etc. The bad part is that they’re often criticized for person privacy. A lot of people don’t pay attention to their privacy settings which can spell the doom.
