aren’t they afraid of the lie being discovered and the consequences of that?
or do they think they they are too smart and the wife is too stupid for the lie to be ever discovered?
i was married to a porn addict, narcissist and pathological liar who was joined at the hip with his parents. of course the marriage didn’t survive, but i wonder why would one want to get married in the first place if the relationship was built on lies? what was his plan B if he got caught?

Well he ended up divorced (single), but if he didnt try and see if the marriage worked, he would have stayed single in the first place. So what did he have to lose by trying?
All people look for love and companionship, even liars. Most people think that their behavior isen’t that bad. And it’s not just men, everyone lies to a certain extent.
I think Arvecar had it pretty much right. I’m a man and can say I’m always honest with my wife, however, I do know men that aren’t. They also tend to talk one way when their wife isn’t around vs. when they are. On the other hand, I was married to a women that had a huge eating disorder that was always lying about it, spent all our money, and wound up cheating on me. I did everything I could to save our marriage, but the cheating was just too much. I have female friends that lie to their husbands as well. I look at it as more an individual thing rather than a gender thing.
You probably did the right thing and divorced him though.

Some women lie in marriage too. It’s a two way road there. And don’t generalize. I hate that.
