Woldnt it be good if madatory lie detection test where given to all acussers?

I am constantly reading in the paper about people that have spent almost there entire lives in prison for being falsely accused most of them are poor African American males it has got to the point that it is like every month someone is found not guilty and tens of thousands of men are appealing coutrt rulings due to DNA evidence, wouldnt it be good if alll cop and any person accusing another take a lie detection test, sure its not 100 percent sure but it may help with the goverment when it comes to interagating terrorits and liars.

results of the lie detector tests are so unreliable they are inadmissible in a court of law. they have been unable to meet the standards of the scientific community to vouch for their certainty. what i think would be better is if people learned not to rush to justice….if they really obeyed the constitutional mandate of the presumption of innocence that every accused person is entitled to. if police had time and inclination to fully investigate each criminal complaint before filing charges. if prosecutors weren’t so driven by ambition that they would not only file too quickly, but also court media publicity of high profile cases. if the public would quit clamoring for an immediate apprehension of a suspect before investigation is complete. the fact is even confessions have proved unreliable. everyone in the legal system, including the public must become more aware of how preconceptions, bias, and other human frailty can contaminate the judicial process. they must learn to examine a criminal complaint by looking at all the evidence, and they must allow time for justice to be served. we are a people who want everything fast. hence McDonald humburgers and McDonald justice.

That has the same problems of everything else, you are still going to convict innocent people. Nothing is 100%. And the cheepest lie detector is the polygraph measuring your heart beat and respirations. Problems there is it doesnt really detect that you are lieing, it is detecting that you have emotion associated with the question.

I believe? voice stress is the most accurate, but not 100% and more expensive.

And they can all be beat if you have really good self control over your emotions, or really believe what you are saying, so that could also lead to guilty parties not being convicted.

Good idea. This may put a stop to poor teachers etc. getting their life f/ed due to some child making false accusations. Also any girl who has proven to lie about a man raping her, her name should be made public and not just the poor man.

Lie detectors are not always effective so no I do not agree with that statement. The only surefire way to convict someone is to have seen them commit the crime.

Every measure should be taken when it comes to placing a person in jail and preventing them to care for there children and loved ones. Many people have lost everything due to a lie. This would help prevent people from spending unneeded nights in jail while waiting for a trial.Truth serum is effective and some local police Depts have access to it.MRI machines have be proven to work with a 96 percent success rate .Yes lie detection is needed ,to help stop the over crowding of prison and county jails ,to many innocent people are having there lives destroyed over lies ,a person can accuse some one of rape 50 years ago and be locked up with no proof or forced to pay milllions yes it is time to stop this non sense and corrupt cops will be given the boot ,we donbt need scum bags protecting us we need honest men.Yes very good idea.

The polygraph is just a stress test that operates under the idea that you will have a heightened sympathetic response when you lie. Polygraph examination is generally not admissable as evidence. And scientists don’t know the error rate (fale positive- you tell the truth but the test says you’re lying and false negative- you lie but the test says it’s truthful).

Voice stress analysis is even worse. Agencies that experiemnted with voice stress analysis have abandoned it and gone back to the traditional polygraph.

There is some hope for Functional MRI lie detector. This test measures brain activity. It’s still in the experimental stage though.

You raise a good point. Convicted prisoners have been exonerated through DNA and other means. So you have part of your answer right there. We have developed other forensic technologies to reduce the chances of false conviction.

The problem arises when the only evidence presented is eyewitness testimony. In these cases there is no physical evidence to corroborate or contradict the witness testimony. It is up to the jury to evaluate the credibility of the witness.

I completely agree with this article. I also believe that all accused rapists or murderers should be subject to a mandatory DNA Test so that that do not end up having to spend nearly their whole life in jail for a crime they did not commit.
